Everything you need to know about this topic.
Night waking can have many causes, including nightmares, anxiety, illness, noise, temperature changes, needing the bathroom or difficulty returning to sleep independently. An inconsistent schedule, late naps and excessive screen use can also contribute. Younger children naturally wake briefly between sleep cycles but may call for a parent if they rely on specific conditions, such as being rocked or having an adult present, to fall asleep. Keep nighttime responses calm, brief and predictable. Check that the bedroom is comfortable and that the child has a regular bedtime routine. Persistent waking may also be linked to snoring, sleep apnea, restless legs, reflux or other medical concerns. Speak with a pediatrician if waking is frequent, worsening or affecting the child's daytime behavior.
