Everything you need to know about this topic.
Sleep deprivation can appear as daytime sleepiness, but children may also become hyperactive, impatient, moody or aggressive. They may struggle to focus, follow instructions, remember schoolwork or control their emotions. Other signs include frequent yawning, headaches, falling asleep during quiet activities and needing much more sleep on weekends. Younger children may experience increased tantrums, while teenagers may become withdrawn or lose motivation. Physical performance and immune function can also be affected. One bad night is not usually a major concern, but repeated symptoms suggest the child's schedule may not provide enough rest. Review bedtime, wake-up time, naps and screen habits. Seek medical advice if the child receives adequate sleep but remains unusually tired or has loud snoring or breathing pauses.
