Answer

A 9-year-old generally needs 9 to 12 hours of sleep every night. Around 9 to 11 hours is common, but some children need closer to the upper end of the range. A child who wakes at 7:00 a.m. may need to be asleep between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m., depending on their individual requirement, with many doing well around 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. Consistent sleep and wake times help the body prepare naturally for rest. Bedtime routines can include washing, brushing teeth, reading and quiet conversation. Keep phones, tablets and gaming devices outside the bedroom where possible. Signs of insufficient sleep include trouble concentrating, irritability, morning headaches, low motivation and sleeping much longer on weekends.
