Answer

A simple age chart uses the following daily ranges. Children ages 1 to 2 need approximately 11 to 14 hours, including naps. Children ages 3 to 5 need around 10 to 13 hours, also including naps. Children ages 6 to 12 need about 9 to 12 hours, usually received at night. Teenagers ages 13 to 18 need roughly 8 to 10 hours. Babies have different requirements and should follow age-specific safe sleep guidance. These ranges are broad because children vary. Use the chart to calculate an initial bedtime, then observe mood, concentration, energy and morning wakefulness. A child who remains tired despite receiving the recommended amount may need a medical evaluation rather than simply more time in bed.
